Grand Blue Stats Explained: What Each of the 6 Stats Does

Every level gives stat points, and where you put them decides which fighting style, fruit and weapon work for you. These definitions come from the Stats card on the community Trello.

The six stats

StatWhat it doesPairs with
Health+4 max health per pointEverything
EnergyMore max energy; more damage on energy-scaling skillsMost fruit moves (Darkness, Bomb, Drain, much of Flame)
StrengthMore damage on fist and sword M1s and most melee skillsBrawler, Novice Swordsman, swords, Strength fruit
PrecisionMore damage on guns, cannons and precision skillsMarksman, sidearms, Cannon fruit, Slingshot
WillpowerResists some negative status effects, more oxygen; stronger Haki laterHaki (not in the game yet)
AgilitySlight movement speed, more dashes, agility-scaling skillsTrickster, claws, daggers

Energy has a catch: every move costs a flat amount plus a percentage, so the Trello notes that extra max energy is hard to feel. Put points there for the damage, not the pool.

Building around one stat

Most weapons and skills scale with the highest of their listed stats, so one high stat usually beats several middling ones. A Strength build pairs well with Brawler or Novice Swordsman and a sword; an Agility build with Trickster and claws; a Precision build with Marksman and a sidearm. The fighting styles page has a table matching each style to the weapons that scale with its stat.

Combat mechanics worth knowing

  • Air counter: when an enemy is in the air, dashing toward them dashes you to them, dealing minor damage and stunning them.
  • Uppercut: hold Space before your final M1.
  • Downslam: jump before your final M1.
  • Evasive: when you are ragdolled, press Q to get up. It works once every 15 seconds.

Skill and equipment levels

Skills gain a choice of upgrade every 3 levels up to level 9, or 12 with the Limit Breaker trait. Equipment can be upgraded 10 times, with a random graded bonus every third upgrade. Details are on the skills and equipment pages.

Crews

Crews let players pool gold, take missions and buy upgrades in seven categories: General, Fishing, Mining, Farming, Cooking, PvE and PvP. A crew can focus on one category for better upgrades and pay gold to change focus. Each mission gives 500 crew experience, and the weekly Grand Voyage challenge gives 750 experience and 30,000 gold to the crew vault.
